"IPU Delegates To Grace September APPU Assembly in Palau"

Republic of Palau − In representing the Republic of Palau to the 116th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Senate Floor Leader Alan R. Seid had opportunities to meet with high-level officials from various countries and organizations to extend invitations to the assembly of the Asian-Pacific Parliamentarians' Union (APPU) this September in Palau.

Senator Seid also had a private meeting with Anders B. Johnsson, Secretary Genearl of the IPU, in which the Secretary General warmly welcomed Palau as an official member of the IPU. This is Palau's first attendance of the IPU General Assembly as an official member. The Secretary General also expressed interested in sending a delegation to represent the IPU at the September assembly of the APPU in Palau.

The Senate Floor Leader also had opportunities to meet with delegates and high-ranking officials of world governments, including Japan, the People's Republic of China, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The delegates from the UAE are already planning an unofficial visit to Palau. In addition, Senator Seid met with officials representing Microsoft, who made a presentation on a computer instrument to prevent the exploitation of children on the internet. The Floor Leader is working to bring that software and training to Palau and also extended a formal invitation to Microsoft to attend the APPU assembly.

The 116th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union was attended by over 1,300 delegates from more than 100 countries. The IPU is the international focal point for parliamentary dialogue towards democracy, peace and cooperation among peoples.
