Republic of Palau − The Senate of the Seventh Olbiil Era Kelulau has unanimously approved the Presidential appointment of Ernest Ongidobel to the Board of Directors of the Palau Environmental Quality Protection Board (EQPB). On Wednesday, May 9, the Senate Committee on Resources, Commerce, Trade, and Development (RCTD), chaired by Senator Alfonso N. Diaz, conducted a public hearing with Mr. Ongidobel to deliberate his appointment. In a Special Session on the same day, the Senate unanimously approved Mr. Ongidobel's appointment on a vote of Senate Resolution 7-112. Since 1998 Ernest Ongidobel has served three terms on the EQPB Board of Directors, with his last term expiring on March 20, 2007. He currently serves as News Director for EPFM / Ngerel Belau AM Radio Station under the Bureau of Domestic Affairs dealing with education and community film programs and government press conferences. The Environmental Quality Protection Board (EQPB) is the government regulatory body that oversees development projects in the Republic to ensure minimal environmental impacts. The role and purpose of the EQPB is set forth under Section 24 of the Palau National Code.
