"Congress, President Pass Supplemental Budget"

Republic of Palau A united National Government has passed the Fiscal Year 2007 Supplemental Budget, in the form of Senate Bill No. 7-166-10, HD4, SD3. In a Special Session on May 31, the Senate passed “The Fiscal Year 2007 Supplemental Budget Authorization and Appropriation Act” with a vote of 5 in favor. The House of Delegates concurred in a separate Session later the same day with a vote of 10 in favor. President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. then signed the Bill into law in the House of Delegates Chambers at the Palau National Capitol as RPPL7-29.

The original Supplemental Budget proposed by President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. provides an additional $44,000 to the Drug Dog Detector Program of the Bureau of Revenue, Customs, and Taxation; appropriates $43,000 to the Palau Law Project of the Bureau of Domestic Affairs; provides an additional $49,000 to the Passport Office to cover printing costs from 2006; appropriates an additional $77,000 towards international organizations obligations; increases the budget for water and sewer operations by $295,000; appropriates an additional $250,000 towards electricity and maintenance costs for the National Capitol; and appropriates $250,000 for Palau’s participation in the 2007 Pacific Games in Samoa.

In addition to the President’s proposals, the Olbiil Era Kelulau has appropriated an additional $30,000 to renovate the radio transmitter facility in Malakal to improve the T8AA and EPFM radio signal; an additional $27,000 to purchase supplies for the Legislative Branch, plus $3,000 to purchase computer anti-virus software and $10,000 to host the 38th General Assembly of the Asian-Pacific Parliamentarians’ Union in September; an additional $80,000 for the House of Delegates and $52,000 for the Senate to cover budget shortfalls and capitol relocation costs; $7,500 to fund the Congressional Reapportionment Commission; and $20,000 to fund the Second Post Constitutional Convention following the failure of Pacific Savings Bank.

The Supplemental Budget also provides an additional $63,458 to the Palau Community Action Agency (PCAA) and $797,000 to satisfy judgments on two separate cases involving government use of private land, namely Ibai Lineage vs. Republic of Palau and Palau Community College and Republic of Palau vs. Wally et.al.
